Meme Literacy
In a world where digital communication reigns supreme, it’s more important than ever to be literate in memes. Memes are the vernacular of our time, and those who can wield them deftly will be better equipped to navigate the digital age. But what is meme literacy, and why is it so important? In this blog post, we’ll explore the definition of memes and discuss why they’re such an integral part of communication today. We’ll also give examples of how you can use memes to engage your audience and create a more meaningful connection with them. So read on, learn all you can about memes, and become a master of this essential form of communication!
Memes are everywhere. You can find them in your social media feed, on the backs of cereal boxes at grocery stores — you name it! No matter where you turn there’s a chance for memes to be lurking just beneath surface-level culture and language; they’re so universal that we often don’t realize how much our own lives mirror those same trends as well until something new pops up out-of-nowhere ( infringing upon intellectual property ). It could be anything: A picture with someone else’s face Photoshopped onto yours — either by making their eyes wider than normal or putting some other unexpected addition into place like eyebrows suggestively drawn across nose bridge while giving a smile
Memes are a great way to make lighthearted, humorous, or entertaining content for the internet. However, they can also have serious impacts on society if not done properly which brings me to the question: How do you spot a good meme? Well, there are some telltale signs that might help point out whether your favorite Pest Control Meme has Worldwide fame ahead of him (or her).
Is it relatable? If you don’t relate to it or it doesn’t trigger some memory then it either wasn’t meant for your audience or it’s just not good (Sorry not sorry)
Did you laugh? Memes are supposed to be funny!
Does it relate to current events or a universal memory? (Yes we all drove by McDonald’s and our moms said we had food at home)
You are now pondering the question, “what is the secret to creating a meme that goes viral” This has a lot of the same attributes we just discussed. The internet has changed our lives in so many ways. One way it’s done this is through memes, which can be either good or bad depending on who you’re talking to at any given time (depending on if they’ve seen their favorite one yet).
A “meme” isn’t anything more than an idea shared among people — something funny but also relatable; maybe something raw footage from your Instagram story would make its way onto Facebook without ever having been edited together properly because someone else already did all of those tedious little things first! But the main tool or secret is that it needs to be universally known and understood.
Now from there, what are some of the most famous memes of all time, and why are they so funny or memorable? The first meme that comes to mind is the Harambe memes, our society took a sad event and grew awareness from the multitude of memes created right after the event. These ‘classic memes’ have been widely circulated online through social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter with millions viewing them every month! We also have the Tide Pod Event of 2017 where a whole generation of social media users took it upon themselves to consume them and then post the after-effects. While this was something crazy and unsafe the internet took this event, created memes making fun of the stupidity, and created awareness. Currently, the best form of memes is taking clips from shows like Euphoria and Mad Men and posting them ‘Out of Context.’
Memes have been around for a long time, but they’ve taken off in the last decade or so. What makes memes so popular? Why do we love them? And why are they such an important part of online culture? In this article, we’ve answered all of those questions and more.
